3 former Slough Town Reserve players were finally convicted last Friday of GBH after attacking a number of Easington Sports players during a match on January 12, 2013.
Aaron Clifford, 26, was sentenced to two-years imprisonment while Jerome Booth, 20 and Charlie Graves, 20, all from Slough, were sentenced to two years at a Young Offenders Institute after pleading not guilty.
An initial summary of the court case earlier suggested that Easington Sports' young team were punched and kicked without provocation. Many of the Easington Sports players were in their first full season of Hellenic football and were under the age of 20 at the time.
The Banbury Guardian intends to run a full story this Thursday, however a brief summary of the verdict can be found here
Easington Sports would like to make the following statement:
The match against Slough Town FC on January 12th 2013 lead to an unfortunate and violent incident that had a significant impact on our very young squad and the manager. It also made the completion of all remaining away fixtures in the Hellenic Reserve Division difficult to fulfil. Whilst Easington Sports gain no satisfaction from seeing 3 players imprisoned, we are pleased with the decision to find the ex Slough Town players guilty which shows just how serious this attack was. The verdict will go a long way to rebuilding the reputation of the Easington Sports players and management of the time as they were considered to be as much to blame. The court decision now allows all involved to move on and draws events related to this unsavoury incident to a close. Finally, Easington Sports would like to put on record our thanks and praise to the players and management of the Reserves for the manner in which they coped with the injuries sustained and the way they conducted themselves during this process.
A recent statement from Slough Town was also released earlier and can be found here
