AGONY FOR SPORTS AFTER A LATE EQUALISER FOR OUR VISITORS

Sports were left with that inevitable feeling of defeat despite picking up another point in the United Counties Premier division against G.N.G Oadby. The visitors scored in the 10th minute of added on time when Sports failed to clear from a corner.

Oadby certainly had the better start to the game and Sports struggled to contain their lively winger who could have scored two fine solo goals after cutting inside from a wide left position. Veteran Tommy Kinch, who had an excellent game on return from injury, marshalled the defence well but on this occasion cleared these two efforts off the line to keep the score at 0-0.

Oadby took the lead from some more great work out wide and went into half time 0-1 up.

After plenty of encouragement and instruction from the management group, Easington's young side started the second half well. Max Leonard came on at the beginning of the half and pressed well with Josh Yeboah and Sam Lawrence which forced Oadby back.

Not for the first time this season, Sports took the lead with 2 goals in quick succession and scoring when on top in the game. Charlie Morgan headed home from a well directed inswinging corner to score his first goal for the club and then Sports youngster Sam Lawrence scored a vital tap in.

The home side grew in confidence during this spell but could not sustain their efforts or carve out another clear cut chance to put the game out of sight.

Sports had to thank Jamie Adim for another outstanding performance to keep Sports in the game. Adim made a fantastic double save and then quickly followed this up with a tip over the bar at full stretch to protect the lead.

Unfortunately, Sports could not hold on to all three points and had to withstand some late pressure from the visitors. After a series of corners and shots had been blocked, the pressure eventually told. The equaliser was headed home in the last minute of added on time. Easington kicked off and within seconds the referee blew his whistle to end the match leaving the home side dejected.

As with all fixtures in this league, there are no easy games and a point may not be the worst result come the end of the season. G.N.G Oadby were one of the better sides to visit Addison Road this season and they are a side that Sports have struggled to beat in recent years.
