"GREAT TO BACK" - WEEKEND PREVIEW

"GREAT TO BACK" - WEEKEND PREVIEW

Richard Meadows6 Mar - 19:38

A FULL WEEKEND OF FIXTURES FOR ESFC TEAMS

After 3 months, the Addison Road pitch has finally had its first cut and roll since the end of November. With increasingly wet winters this is something for the club to address if we can in the close season to see if more can be done to deal with flooding. That said for now, it is great to see football back at Addison Road this weekend. Despite a very busy end of season, all matches for the adult section should finish as scheduled.

Sports first team are now set for their penultimate away game of the season this weekend and then look forward to 9 home matches to end the season with just one away fixture left against Coventry United.

After an impressive defensive display last week, Sports came away with a confidence boosting point at Eynesbury Rovers. Our boasted a great record at home and so Andy Sharman and his players can be very pleased with the result. Sports looked lively on the break and could have snatched more points after some excellent counter attacking breaks. This weekend is another tough fixture away to March Town who have sustained a promotion play off position for all of the season. They currently sit second to runaway leaders Nuneaton Town and so this will be a big test for Sharman's injury hit squad.

Much has been said by a number of sides about the importance of pathways and the need to build these for talented players from the local area. Whilst others talk about the importance, Sports continue to deliver with 7 of the first team squad 18 or younger whilst the development squad have supported the first team throughout the season.

The development side will be playing at Addison Road in a 3pm kick off against Banbury United Development in a local derby but will again be stretched with injuries and call ups to the first team.. Sports will be looking to fair better than the last contest where Banbury ran out winners.

The links between the sides will continue to be needed to get through a tough run of games for the first team and the development team. With more players now coming through into the development team from the under 18s, this will be the first weekend that the under 18s squad will be making use of 3 under 16s players for the first time this season.

With lots of decisions already in place ahead of next season to strengthen and to improve the pathway into adult football, it is clear this season has been our best yet for promoting players and building a clear pathway that now stretches back into the under 16s.

Lastly, the Ladies first team will also be playing at home this weekend and will be kicking off a 2pm on Sunday. The Ladies will be up against Didcot Town who should be a tough test with Didcot just one point behind the ESFC side who currently sit in 3rd place in the division. Easington Sports girls section continue to grow and it won't be long before the teams will connect up and the pathway will be formed. This will be another great outcome as we look to consolidate our position as a thriving community club.

Fingers crossed for more points on the board for all teams in the adult section this weekend.
