A brace from Durrell Livous and a goal from Sam Grant allowed Easington first team the chance to brush aside a youthful New College Swindon team. Sports were in control of this match from start to finish but it took until the latter stages of the second half for the home side to make their dominance count.
Easington were able to field a strong side and bench for the game and manager Phil Lines opted to stick with the players that did so well against Thame United last week. Sports controlled the game in the first half without performing at their best. At times players had too much time on the ball and often made the wrong decisions taking too many touches. As a result, there were few chances of note in the first half. Andrew Stidder did well to beat both goalkeeper and defender to a Livous flick on but his header just went over the bar. Josh Northam also dragged a shot past the post after a controlling a long cross field pass down the left before beating his mark to get the shot away. Easington eventually took the lead just before half time from a corner. A New College defender half cleared the ball but Sam Grant powered a header back at the goal which was deflected in off a defender to make it 1-0 at half time.
After some strong words from manager Phil Lines, Easington started the second half brightly and seemed more determined to get bodies and balls into the box. Ryan Markham and Craig Robinson were both introduced early in the half and the pair certainly made a difference providing some fresh ideas when going forward. Robinson and Livous linked up well for the second goal of the game which eventually saw Livous beat both defender and keeper to the knock down to roll the ball into the empty net mid way through the second half. Livous then went on to score the goal of the game after some good team build up play. Andrew Stidder was played in down the right hand side by Terry Fitton, Stidder then crossed to the back post where Northam again showed good control and awareness to knock a ball back into the box which Livous ran onto and headed home leaving the keeper stranded. There was still time for Northam to make it 4-0 but unfortunately the young winger blasted over the bar after being played through one on one with the keeper.
Overall this was a comfortable win for Easington and it was a game they controlled without playing at their best. Momentum does continue to build and the win makes it 7 games on the bounce in all competitions.
