Sports have been battling with the weather for several years now and with climate change set to bring wetter winters and drier summers, a plan was needed to reduce the flooding of the school field in winter whilst retaining water for summer months to boost irrigation and pitch recovery.
Therefore in partnership primarily with Football Foundation and GRAF LTD, Easington have been able to install rainwater harvesting tanks to collect water off the stands behind the BGN Goal.
Matthew Rolph the Managing Director of GRAF LTD, Banbury, has been working with Chairman Richard Meadows for a number of months to assist with the application and installation of the system which includes harvesting tanks, submersible pump and sprinkler system to help with the germination of grass seed and the recovery of the pitch. Whilst there has been some funding from the Football Foundation for part of the project, Easington Sports are delighted to announce that GRAF LTD have agreed to sponsor the club and the project to cover the full club costs.
Additional fencing and signage is nearing completion (see images here) whilst the tanks and the sprinkler have been working virtually non stop since May in what has been the driest spring in 100 years and and a super dry May and June.
With temperatures set to soar by the end of the week, the harvesting tanks collected much needed water over the last 2 days and this will mean the sprinkler system will be in action again towards the end of the week in an attempt to keep the new grass that has germinated alive in these testing heat conditions.
A massive thank you to GRAF LTD for their help with this project and fingers crossed we can keep the surface in good condition until this fine weather turns a little cooler and wetter!
