Easington Sports regret to inform you all of the loss of Rita Southam MBE who died peacefully on the 22nd November at the age of 94.
Rita was an ever-present figure and fantastic servant and supporter of the club, working behind the bar and in the snack bar on matchdays from 1995 and throughout the 2000s. She eventually stepped back from matchday duties around 2010 but enjoyed her time watching her grandsons Paul and Steve Crognale and Ross McAneny and could often be heard shouting encouragement from the clubhouse doors! She was also close by to keep a watchful eye over Charlie (McAneny) her son in law whilst he was in the dug out and in the bar during his committee days!
Rita will be fondly remembered by a whole host of local players and managers and she was always so friendly and positive greeting the players and serving up the post-match hospitality no matter what the result.
We know there are former players and supporters who have moved away from the area who check our website and so it is great to be able to share a lovely photo of Rita and to offer our condolences to Rita’s family.
Rita’s funeral will be held at the Banbury Crematorium at 11.00am on Monday December 11th.
